Crime Movies belong to a larger genre family, along with Detective and Thriller Movies. While Detective Stories revolve around the investigation of a crime, Crime Stories revolve around the planning, execution, and aftermath of a crime. It’s the cat-and-mouse game between gangsters and the police that creates the tension in the script. Crime Movies are closely related to Action Movies, but are a separate form.

Characters in Crime Movies
In Action Movies, characters often have to train to reach their goals. In Crime Movies, on the other hand, they are usually trained crime fighters or gangsters. The want of the main character is either to catch a criminal or to get away with a crime, depending on the point of view from which the story is told. The key to a good Crime Movie lies in the character of the master criminal. The more sophisticated their strategy, the better the story.
